OUR GOAL

The CTBi Lab is dedicated to advancing immunoregenerative medicine to address the increasing prevalence of age-related and autoimmune diseases. While our research was originally rooted in stem cell-based tissue regeneration, it has since expanded to include immune cell therapeutics, engineered extracellular vesicles (EVs), and induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived organoid models for regenerative and translational research.

We aim to develop innovative cell- and gene-based therapeutic strategies that modulate immune responses and promote tissue repair by integrating bioinformatics with regenerative medicine. Through interdisciplinary research, the CTBi Lab is committed to translating fundamental biological insights into next-generation therapies for chronic and age-associated diseases.

CTBi Lab은 노화 관련 질환과 자가면역질환의 증가에 대응하기 위해 면역재생의학을 중심으로 한 차세대 치료 전략을 연구합니다. 줄기세포 기반 조직 재생 연구에서 출발한 본 연구실은 현재 면역세포 치료제, 엔지니어링된 세포외소포체(EV), 그리고 iPSC 유래 오가노이드 모델을 포함하는 재생의학 연구로 확장되었습니다.

저희는 생물정보학과 재생의학을 융합하여 면역 반응을 조절하고 조직 재생을 촉진하는 세포 및 유전자 치료 전략을 개발하고자 합니다. 다학제적 접근을 통해, 노화 및 만성질환 치료를 위한 혁신적인 면역재생의학 플랫폼을 구축하는 것이 CTBi Lab의 궁극적인 목표입니다.

1. Regenerative Immune Therapeutics

One of our core research areas focuses on developing regenerative immune therapeutics to treat chronic autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. We focus our work on modulating the immune microenvironment to suppress pathological inflammation and promote tissue repair and regeneration.

We are particularly interested in immune-based therapeutic strategies for psoriasis, atherosclerosis, and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Our research centers on two complementary approaches to achieve this: developing immunoregenerative macrophage (iMac) therapies and EV-like vesicle-based gene delivery systems.

Through these platforms, we aim to establish innovative, immune-regenerative treatment strategies that address disease pathology while restoring tissue homeostasis. Ultimately, we hope to advance next-generation therapies for chronic and age-associated diseases.

첫 번째 주요 연구 분야는 조직재생 면역치료제 개발입니다. 이 치료제는 만성 자가면역질환과 노인성 혈관질환을 타겟으로 하며, 면역 환경을 조절하고 조직 재생을 촉진하는 것을 목표로 하고 있습니다. 특히, 건선(자가면역질환), 동맥경화, 당뇨성 허혈질환(노인성 혈관질환)을 중점적으로 연구하고 있습니다.

첫 번째 주요 연구 분야는 면역재생 치료제 개발입니다. 본 연구는 만성 자가면역 및 염증성 질환에서 병적인 면역 반응을 조절하고, 조직 회복과 재생을 동시에 유도하는 치료 전략에 초점을 맞추고 있습니다.

CTBi Lab은 특히 건선, 동맥경화, 염증성 장질환을 주요 타겟 질환으로 설정하고 있으며, 이를 위해 두 가지 핵심 연구 축을 중심으로 연구를 수행하고 있습니다. 하나는 면역재생 기능을 갖는 대식세포 기반 치료제 개발이며, 다른 하나는 EV-like vesicle을 활용한 유전자 전달 기반 치료 전략입니다.

이러한 접근을 통해 저희 연구실은 질환의 염증성 병태를 조절함과 동시에 조직 항상성을 회복시키는 차세대 면역재생 치료 플랫폼을 구축하는 것을 목표로 합니다.

2. EV Engineering

Our second major area of research is the engineering of extracellular vesicles (EVs) for next-generation gene and RNA-based therapies. We design and develop EV and EV-like platforms that can efficiently deliver genetic cargo, such as miRNA, to target cells and tissues.

One key application of this research is developing anti-metastatic cancer therapies. We aim to suppress gene networks that drive cancer progression and metastasis by loading engineered EVs with therapeutic miRNAs, offering a novel strategy to limit tumor spread.

Bioinformatics plays a central role in this process by enabling the identification of disease-relevant gene targets and regulatory pathways. By integrating EV engineering and computational biology, our lab is advancing innovative RNA delivery platforms with broad therapeutic potential for cancer and other complex diseases.

두 번째 주요 연구 분야는 EV Engineering으로, 차세대 유전자 및 RNA 기반 치료제 개발을 목표로 합니다. 저희는 miRNA와 같은 유전 물질을 표적 세포와 조직에 효과적으로 전달할 수 있는 엔지니어링된 EV 및 EV-like vesicle 플랫폼을 개발하고 있습니다.

본 연구의 핵심 응용 분야 중 하나는 암 전이를 억제하는 치료 전략입니다. 치료용 miRNA를 탑재한 EV를 활용하여 암 진행과 전이에 관여하는 유전자 네트워크를 조절함으로써, 암의 확산을 효과적으로 억제하는 새로운 치료 접근법을 제시하고자 합니다.

이 과정에서 생물정보학은 핵심 도구로 활용되며, 질환 관련 표적 유전자 및 조절 경로를 체계적으로 발굴하는 데 기여합니다. CTBi Lab은 EV 공학과 계산생물학을 융합하여, 암을 비롯한 복합 질환 치료를 위한 혁신적인 RNA 전달 플랫폼을 구축하는 것을 목표로 합니다.

3. Skin Organoid and Modeling

The third pillar of our research focuses on disease modeling based on organoids and tissue engineering to study aging and immune-related disorders in complex human tissues. We develop skin and vascular organoid models, as well as advanced assembloid systems, to recreate tissue-specific and multicellular interactions in health and disease.

Our skin models investigate skin aging and autoimmune skin disorders, such as psoriasis, and our vascular models study atherosclerosis and age-associated vascular dysfunction. We integrate tissue engineering approaches with biophysical and computational analyses to capture dynamic changes in tissue structure, mechanics, and immune responses.

These platforms provide powerful tools for elucidating disease mechanisms and evaluating therapeutic strategies in a physiologically relevant context. Ultimately, they support the development of regenerative and immune-modulating therapies.

세 번째 연구 분야는 오가노이드 및 조직공학 기반 질환 모델링을 활용한 피부 및 혈관 연구입니다. CTBi Lab은 피부와 혈관 오가노이드 모델, 나아가 다양한 세포 간 상호작용을 재현하는 어셈블로이드(assembloid) 시스템을 구축하여, 노화 및 면역 관련 질환을 정밀하게 모사하고자 합니다.

피부 모델을 통해 피부 노화 및 자가면역 피부질환인 건선을 연구하며, 혈관 모델에서는 동맥경화와 노인성 혈관 기능 이상을 중심으로 질환 메커니즘을 규명하고 있습니다. 이러한 모델에 조직공학적 접근과 생물물리·계산 분석을 결합함으로써, 조직의 구조적·기계적 변화와 면역 반응을 통합적으로 분석합니다.

본 연구는 질환의 병태생리를 보다 실제에 가깝게 이해하고, 재생 및 면역 조절 치료 전략을 검증할 수 있는 핵심 연구 플랫폼을 제공하는 것을 목표로 합니다.
